Welcome to the News & Information section of the North American Pepsi Cup Website. You'll find almost everything you need to get your team registered and on the ice for the tournament in the tabs to the left. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact a tournament official.
As we enter our 13th year in 2012, we have had many questions that have been asked throughout the years and we have posted the most asked questions here. If you have any questions you feel may be frequently asked about a tournament, feel free to e-mail them to Ryan Griggs (Tournament Director) , and we will post them on our FAQ page.
Is the North American Pepsi Cup a sanctioned tournament?
- NO, the Pepsi Cup is not a sanctioned tournament within USA Hockey. As with most summer tournaments, they are independently run. All participants are required to sign a waiver releasing the tournament from any liability regarding injury. If a player is injured during play in the North American Pepsi Cup, it is the sole responsibility and liability of individual player that is participating in the tournament. This waiver must be submitted before any player is allowed on the ice.
If I have a child playing in the tournament, do I have to pay an admission fee?
- YES, The North American Pepsi Cup Tournament does charge a gate/admission fee to spectators. This tournament admission fee keeps tournament entry fees low, and helps cover the costs associated with running a tournament. Penalty Box workers, rink supervisors, and referees are all paid, and the admission fee helps cover these costs. The North American Pepsi Cup has NO corporate sponsorship, and is called the Pepsi Cup in name only. Tournament admission passes are available as a daily or weekend pass. Tournament Admission Passsd can be pre-paid for and picked up by the team manager at team check-in.
What is the tournament format in the Pepsi Cup?
-The Pepsi Cup guarantees each team that participates 4 games. Some of the teams participating will get 5 games of play on the weekend. Each game consists of 3 17-minute periods. All tournament levels are split into Pool Play, and the top team(s) out of the pools advance into championship bracket play.
Does the Pepsi Cup give away free t-shirts to all participants?
NO, we do not. A "free" t-shirt at a tournament is anything but "free." The tournament that offers a "free" t-shirt has raised its entry fee to a higher amount to cover the cost of the t-shirt, and it most definitely is not "free." The Pepsi Cup does bring in high-quality vendors that sell all sorts of apparel on-site at each arena throughout the tournament. The goal of the Pepsi Cup is to provide teams with 4, maybe 5 competitive games on the ice, and is not about handing out freebies that you have paid for, and just not realized it.
When will games start?
-The North American Pepsi Cup Tournament Committee works very hard to schedule games convenient for teams with longer travel. With that being said, games can possibly start by 10:00 AM on the Friday of the tournament, and the last games of the day on Sunday should start no later than 5:30 PM.
Do I have to check my team in to the tournament?
-YES. A team representative is required to check their team in ONLY at the tournament headquarters prior to their team touching the ice for the first game on Friday. Each player does not have to check in individually. Check-In is to be done by a team representative and should include the entire teams' information, including player waivers, final roster check-in, proof of players eligibility. Failing to check-in your team will put the tournament behind, and possibly make your team forfeit their first game. Please allow for travel time when checking in.
Can a player play on more than 1 team in the Pepsi Cup?
-Players are not allowed to be on more than 1 roster per level. If a player is registered with 2 teams at the same level, that player will be allowed to participate with 1 team, but not both. Players ARE allowed to play on more than 1 team if they are in different levels. (ex. A 1998 player could play on a 1997 team and a 1998 team, but not on 2 1998 teams).
Does the Pepsi Cup provide locker room supervision?
-NO. The North American Pepsi Cup does not provide staff to watch your locker room door. Locker Room Keys ARE AVAILABLE at every arena, and a team representative should make every effort to get a key prior to every game. We recommend that you lock your locker room door at all times when your team is on the ice. The North American Pepsi Cup is not responsible for missing items, and recommends that participants leave all valuables in their vehicle before entering the arena.
Does a Drivers License or Passport work as an acceptable form of Age Identification for players?
YES, a Drivers License or a passport WILL WORK as a form of Age Identification for checking players in.
